ACCIDENTAL PORTRAITS In photography, a portrait is a composed image showing a person in a still position. It attempts to capture appearance of the subject. In literature, a portrait is an intricate word picture revealing the character of a person. It attempts to capture the essence of the subject. Each of the images in this series has a clear focal point: a single human being. Surrounded by other people or a complex environment, this single person commands the centre of the photograph. But the image isn’t composed, the situation not manipulated, the person a stranger unaware he is sitting for his portrait. Accidental Portraits captures people in their natural environments. Somewhere between a literary and a photographic portrait, each image conveys not just the physical likeness of a person but allows deeper insights into their character to slowly reveal themselves. |
