EINE SE(H)KUNDE

Eine Se(h-)kunde. German to English translation: 'One Second' or 'The Art of Seeing'

The 'Eine Se(h-)kunde' photographs are an inventory of everyday America at the turn of the twenty-first century. Taken on a 20,000 mile journey across the United States in 1999, they record fragments of ordinary lives, spaces, marks, scratches, atmospheres and scenarios.

The individual image can be seen as a single-second recording borrowed during an encounter with someone else's reality. As a body of work, with its photographs as pairs, 'Eine Se(h-)kunde' brings together the multiple voices and produces a site of contextual exchange.
