SOMETHING LIKE HOME

'Something like Home' re-visits the once well-known spaces of a former home-place. All photographs are taken within a one-mile radius of a childhood residence, left behind two decades ago. An environment of small-town streets and houses, fields and forests - once inhabited intuitively, playfully, without questioning or reflection - becomes the subject of conscious photographic consideration.

The images explore the territory not as a continuous landscape but as individual sites. The spectator must remain within the tight spatial perimeter of each captured moment, surrounded by night, darkness, fog. In each image, the constricted space and impenetrable environmental conditions reveal the coming together of everyday domesticity, predictable rural landscapes, repetition and familiarity on one hand and the uncanny and obscure on the other.
